Mirzo Ulugbek. Registan. Samarkand.
The Mirzo Ulugbek Madrasah and Mosque is located on the western side of Registan Square, opposite the Shir-Dor Mosque. It was built in 1434 by Timur's grandson Mirza Ulugbek. In 1446, Ulugbek became the ruler of Timur's empire. He is famous for his love of mathematical sciences. He was killed in 1449 by his son Mirzo Abdullatif, a year after the patricide, the latter was also killed and his head was hung on the facade of the Ulugbek madrasah. Mirzo Ulugbek is buried in the Gur-Emir mausoleum next to Timur.
